Sudafed (original formula) is no longer on the shelf to prevent drug abuse. Wouldn't u rather just let...?
Sudafed (original formula) is no longer on the shelf to prevent drug abuse. The ingredients can be refined and altered to create crystal-meth, the worst illegal drug there is. There's still a package sold on the shelf called "Sudafed" and it looks the same, but contains totally different ingredients... ingredients that do not work. To get REAL Sudafed (pseudoephedrine) you now have to pay a few bucks more for the retail price, and stand in line at the Pharmacists' counter, and show ID and sign a DEA form. Wouldn't it be worth it to just sell the REAL Sudafed on the shelf again, so people with colds or allergies can get convenient relief... and just let the meth addicts die? Why do we have to inconvenience ourselves protecting stupid people? And if we really cared about meth addicsts so much, how come there's not a single federally funded treatment-on-demand clinic? Plenty of cops to bust doors down... Plenty of DEA agents to make sure you aren't brewing up meth from the Sudafed... but no drug treatment centers? Is the War on Drugs more about control of YOU, than of controlling drug addiction?

- I completely agree with you, the over regulation of Pseudoephrine was a feel good thing the politicians did to send the message to their constituents that they were doing something to get tough on meth. The sad truth is though that the law of unintended consequences took over and now 80+ percent of meth is now imported from Mexico causing the price to drop and purity to skyrocket, and all the law did was create a monopoly for Mexican Meth kingpins, cause undo hassle for the sick general public...and the local meth cooks still get there pills.
- I disagree. I personally know two people who became addicted to Ephedrine, the key ingredient in Sudafed. You don't have to turn it into meth to become addicted. Just taking too many too often will do it. Kids as young as 13 I know have used it to get high. If it were just adults I wouldn't care.
- Drug addiction can be extremely serious. Many everyday people have lost jobs, homes, friends, and loved ones simply because they could not tame thier drug habit. I recommend you seek some help.
